Charles Hamilton, a member since 1987, died of cancer on January 4, 1993. Charlie had been fighting cancer for quite a long while, and the last few times he attended a Times Squares function he was only able to sit and watch the dancers.
He retired from being a special education teacher a few years ago, then he devoted many hours a week as a volunteer for SAGE. He was very happy in his retirement.
Charlie was a quiet man, who often could be found sitting off to the side waiting for his level of dancing to come up again, or out in front of P.S. 3 having a cigarette between breaks. He will be missed by those of us who knew him. — Mac McCarthy
