Harland Johannes Jylha passed away on January 5, 2002. He was born October 14, 1924 in Ashtabula, OH. His mother was from Finland and his father was second-generation Finish. His only brother, Allen W. Jylha and his wife, Lynn Eriebe Jylha, survive him. He moved to San Antonio in 1976 and worked in libraries of the Judson School District. Inurnment of his ashes will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 18, 2002 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors. Arrangements with Hillcrest Funeral Home.[1]

Harland J. Jylha, SMM ’55 died January 6, 2002 in San Antonio, TX following a lengthy illness. Harland was a graduate of DePauw University, received a Fulbright Grant for study in Finland with Finn Videro at he Sibelius Academy and for four years was secretary at the School of Sacred Music in New York before moving on to various positions as organist/director in Michigan. For many years he taught in the public school system of San Antonio. A memorial service was held in that city at Trinity University Chapel on January 27.[2]
