Justin met his spouse while square dancing, and their family moved to Salt Lake City in 2007 where they co-founded Temple Squares, Utah's one and only square dance club for the GLBT community and their friends.

In 2017 Justin and his husband Ross Crawshaw-Lopton were presented with the Golden Boot Award by Keith Gehrig. In 2018, they passed it on to Pam Clasper and Barry Clasper.
