An Albuquerque resident since 1983, Peck was an alcohol and drug abuse counselor. He was the first director of the Gay Men's Heath Project for New Mexico AIDS Services, a position he left a year ago because of his illness.

He died Sunday morning at his home in the company f his stepmother and a number of friends from across the country. His lungs had partially collapsed Friday, after which he was in and out of consciousness, said a friend, Dennis Dunnum.
