History: The 2013 Convention in San Francisco saw what would become the birth of Pegasus Squares. Several members of the defunct Big D Longhorns met dancers who had recently moved to the Dallas area and the idea of forming a new club was born. Alan Josephson, a former 3-time President of Big D met Rob Miller and Tony Fornito and several others at the San Francisco Convention.

When they returned to Dallas, several former members of the Big D Longhorns were called to see if they were interested in forming a new club or resuscitating the old club. We agreed to meet for a preliminary meeting at Lucky's Cafe on Oak Lawn on July 22, 2013. Alan Josephson presided and we first verified the interest in forming a club. All present liked the idea so the next step was determining if we knew others who would want to join in. Potential callers were discussed.

We met again at Lucky's on August 5, 2013. We discussed choosing a name for our club. There was some desire expressed that the club name be less Dallas centric than the old Big D Longhorns as many interested parties were in other nearby cities. After much discussion, Pegasus Squares was chosen as the club name. Pegasus was chosen because the Magnolia Oil Company (eventually Mobil Oil) was headquartered in the Dallas area until it was bought out by Exxon. During its life, the iconic symbol of a flying red horse was its trademark, and a neon outlined sculpture of a flying horse rotated atop its headquarters for decades. Locals called it Pegasus after the flying white horse of ancient myths.

We met again on September 17, 2013, at Lucky's. At this meeting Alan unveiled his artwork for the logo which was instantly approved. Planning to start lessons, we needed to find a venue and a caller. We also needed to find students.

Lessons didn't start until January 29, 2014, and we graduated our first class of dancers on June 15, 2014. We requested membership in IAGSDC at the convention that July and were accepted as a full member. [1]
