Obituary

Arnold Pincus, loving life partner of Benn Howard, brother of Rubin Pincus, Edna Cantor and Ida Engel, uncle of Patricia Green, Philip Pincus and Ginny Pincus and great uncle of Gail Green and David Dietz, died peacefully on February 15, 2016 surrounded by his close friends.

Arnie was born in Brooklyn, NY in May 1929. After serving in the U.S. Army, Arnie went to graduate school at the University of Iowa where he met his life partner, the dancer and artist Benn Howard. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from 1957-1959. From Iowa, Arnie and Benn moved to Calgary, where Arnie held his first teaching position; they moved to Los Angeles in 1961 where Arnie was professor of history at Cal State, Los Angeles, retiring in 1992. Arnie was an active and long-time member of Beth Chayim Chadashim, serving as president from 1975-1977. In retirement, Arnie pursued his many interests, including travel, Japanese calligraphy, dance, pilates, yoga and voice instruction. Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Cemetery at 10:00 am on Friday, February 19, 2016.
