Remembrances
Hello.
It's very easy to tell you about my son Bill. Everyone who knew Bill could have taken lessons from him. He had a beautiful way with people. He always showed so much warmth and caring.
He gave many hours working with the Sacramento AIDS Foundation and Hand To Hand. Always there if someone needed him, and many did.
Bill would also stand up and fight for the things he believed in.
He marched in Washington DC. He sat on the steps of the Supreme Court, even though he knew he would be arrested. He was trying to wake the people up to the seriousness of this terrible demon AIDS.
Bill was a super teacher.
He was given the new teacher award the first year he taught. He loved all the children and they loved him. One of his colleagues said "Every child that was fortunate to have Mr. Quinn would remember him as their special teacher."
Bill believed if teaching was made more interesting, enough kids would stay busy and you would not have a discipline problem.
Bill's principal said he was such a professional in the classroom, but had a great sense of humor outside of it. All the te4achers loved him.
I am enclosing an article that was in the school bulletin.
And also this writing by Jack London. This was the motto Bill lived by. He certainly was a superb meteor.
The world's loss is heavens gain.
Bill was born in Tulare, Calif. June 7, 1951.
He attended schools in Tulare.
He graduated with a Master's in Education from University of Pacific in 1974.
And he lived in Sacramento.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, James W. Quinn.
And he is survived by his mother, Rose Quinn of Visalia, Calif.
A brother, James Quinn of Fresno, and a brother, John Quinn of San Francisco.
Bill also leaves a loving friend, Lazlo Nemeth of Sacramento.
Thank you.
Kind regards.
— Rose Quinn[2]
Legacy
A scholarship fund has been established in memory of our dear friend and colleague Bill Quinn. It will be a sustaining scholarship awarded each year to a Lincoln graduating senior who has demonstrated proficiency and interest in the Chapter One computer labs and wishes to pursue education in a community or state college. Contributions may be made to the Bill Quinn Scholarship Fund through the Office of Multilingual and Compensatory Education Services.
Bill came to Lincoln United School district in September 1980. He served as a Chapter One resource teacher at the old Lincoln Senior Elementary School and at Colonial Heights School. During his career in Lincoln United, Bill established two learning labs, provided major leadership on computer technology and computer assisted instruction not only in Lincoln District, but also throughout the state. He was a frequent presenter for Lincoln United staff and for local and state conferences.
Bill's teaching skill was described by one of our colleagues as being "as magically clear and non-threatening for any adult who asked him for help as it was for kindergartners, fourth-, or eighth-graders".[3]
