Obituary

Dear Friends of Brian Nims

For those of you who knew Brian Nims, but may not be aware, it is with great sadness that I inform you of his passing at Swedish Hospital back on May 28.

Brian was one of the longest running friendships I had here in Seattle, and even though he would seemingly drop out of sight, sometimes for years at a time, he always reemerged into my life when I seemed to need a friend the most. I had not seen Brian since 1996 when I bumped into him and his new partner at the Safeway on 15th Avenue here on Capitol Hill on Sunday afternoon this past spring. We briefly got reacquainted, but I would not hear from him again until the week before his passing when he called me at 7:00 a.m. on a Tuesday morning to let me know he was in the hospital. He had been there for a few weeks. I went to see him that Saturday afternoon, and though he was definitely ill, he was in good spirits and seemed to be getting better. I planned to visit him again a few days later and called his room to make sure he would be up for it. That’s when I learned the news of his passing.

I’m grateful for the chance to see him one last time. Heaven is blessed with his presence just as we were here on earth. I will miss him, but I know when I cross over to the other side some day, he’ll be there to meet me and give me the grand tour!

I do not know of any memorial plans for Brian as I am not in touch with his family. There has been no obituary in the local papers so far. Keep his memory in your heart.
