Obituary

CARL ALBERT MEGL
Carl Albert Megl of Columbia died Sunday, Jan 3, 1988, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital. He was 43. There was a private cremation on Wednesday for immediate family at Parker Funeral Home. There will be a non-religious Memorial Service on Saturday, Jan. 9, 1988 at 3 P.M. in the multipurpose room of the Newman Center, 701 Maryland Avenue, Columbia.

Carl died of pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and wished the cause of death to be mentioned in his obituary.

He was born to Frank Megl and Elizabeth (Dixon) Megl on Sept. 24, 1944 in St. Louis and was raised there, graduating with honors from Roosevelt High School in 1961. He worked as a hairdresser in St. Louis, Springfield, and Miami, Florida.

Carl was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous in Columbia and was looking forward to the fourth anniversary of his sobriety on Valentine's Day. He was a"buddy" volunteer for the Mid-Missouri AIDS Project. He had attended services at Unity Center of Columbia.

This January he was to begin his senior year at the University og Missouri-Columbia, College of Arts and Science, with a major in sociolgy. He hoped to graduate in December of this year and eventually make a career working in some capacity for the terminally ill, though ill himself. Carl made Arts and Science Dean's list for the 1987 winter and fall semesters.

He leaves behind his parents and his younger brother Frankie, all now of Miami, Florida, and very many grateful friends in Columbia and Fulton.[1]
