Remembrances

I have sad news to share. Yesterday, January 20, Gary Lange died. John and I don't have much information, because we had been out of contact with Gary for many, many years. Apparently Gary still had some contact with Richard Kimball, who also has kept in contact with Craig Palmer.
Here's the information that Richard Kimball (also a former member of Chi-Town Squares) sent to Craig Palmer, who then passed it along to John:
I saw less and less of [Gary] due to the pandemic, and he was practically homeless for a while. He was last living at the Evanston Y. He had been in Evanston :hospital for about 10 days with kidney and liver failure. He also had stomach or liver cancer—not sure which or both. His brother and aunt are here taking care of :things. A memorial service will be planned for "the spring" and I will let you know when they announce that.
I have no other information than this. Please feel free to pass this along to others that I might have forgotten to include on this email. Bob, feel free to include information in your next Chi-Town Squares email.
Gary was a lovely person and was a great asset to Chi-Town Squares, being one of the five central people who planned and executed the 2010 IAGSDC convention.

This is amazingly sad news. Gary was such a delightful man, and so talented. He did the graphics for the 2010 Convention, and cooked up that scheme with the hotel to serve flaming baked Alaska to a 1000 dancers. Which ended up the waiters, and then the rest of the room, swirling their white linen napkins over their heads, a memory I will never forget. Getting teary-eyed just thinking about it.
Gary and I lost touch with each other a few years after Convention. He seemed to withdraw from most everyone. So sad to hear.
