Obituary

HARY WILIAM PARKS>br> RALEIGH — Gary William Parks, 44, of New York City, son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin R. Parks, Jr. of Raleigh, died peacefully at his home on Sunday October 17, 1999 after a battle with brain cancer. He has been surrounded and supported by a host of neighbors and friends. He was born in Orlando, FL in 1955. Gary was a graduate of Enloe High School, Raleigh and of UNC at Chapel Hill where he earned a degree in Art History. He spent his junior year of study at Paul Valery University in Montpelier, France.

Gary began his professional career with the Institute of Fine Arts in New York City. He then earned a Masters Degree in Dance History and Criticism at New York University, where he was named Paulette Goddard Scholar at New York University's Tisch School of Arts in 1983.

In addition to his parents, Gary is survived by a brother, Calvin Ross Parks, III and sister-in-law, Rose Cashwell Parks; nephews, Matthew, Andrew, Zachary and Sam; nieces, Rebekah and Makayla Parks; long-time special friend William "Bill" Mitchell and many friends.

A graveside service will be held at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Huntersville, NC at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, 1999. At a later date there will be a memorial service in New York City.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Congregational Scholarship Fund, 112 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh NC 27601 or Raleigh Brain Tumor Support Group, 1105 Indian Trail, Raleigh, NC 27609.[1]
