Obituary

George Gibson III Born November 11, 1955, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2010, in Oakland, at the age of 54. His loving partner, Sanford Dole, was by his side after having cared for him throughout his 9-month battle with pancreatic cancer. George is survived by his mother, Amelia, his sister Karen (Larry), niece Holly, brothers Kurt and Karl, nephew Chris (Linda and Victoria), niece Heather (Frank, Blake (Kristin), Brooke), friends Peg, Kathy and their families, as well as his former partner, Michael Gitt. George grew up in Santee, CA. After graduating from UC Riverside he moved to the city he adored, San Francisco, in 1977. He loved to travel and became a well-respected travel agent, first in the leisure category, where his clients included well-known San Francisco society figures, and later in corporate travel. He also enjoyed hiking/camping, fine dining and collecting wine and art books. He will be missed by his family, colleagues in the travel industry, friends in the square-dancing and bear communities, and by the parishioners at St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church where he had recently become a member. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor him may make donations in his memory to the Sanford Dole Ensemble (www.sde.org) or to St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church (www.saintgregorys.org).[1]
