Obituary

Mary Ann Miley, 58, of Denver, Colo., peacefully entered into Eternal Life on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at her home after a brief period of cancer.

Born Nov. 19, 1955, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of Rita Jane (Martin) Hartnett of Hagerstown and the late Lawrence Joseph Plumadore Hartnett.

She was a 1974 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School. She obtained her associate degree from Hagerstown Community College in 1976. She continued to Frostburg State University, graduating with a degree in elementary education and a minor in art in 1978.

Mary Ann taught at St. Mary Catholic School in Hagerstown from 1978 to 1980 before moving to Denver, where she lived the remainder of her life.

She worked for Amoco Oil for 14 years before returning to her passion of teaching. She taught in the Denver public school system from 1996 until months before her passing.

She was an active member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Denver, where she participated in the environmental and hospitality committees, and was a Eucharistic minister.

She loved square dancing with the “Fiddle Steppers,” and met her late husband, Joseph Miley, in 1987.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Sarah Jane Miley of Denver; stepdaughter, Amy Elizabeth Miley of Denver; four sisters, Linda (Michael) Harsh of Williamsport, Md., Cynthia (Roland) Sorensen of Hagerstown, Margaret “Peg” (Lewis) Payne of Remsen, N.Y., and Carole (Richard) Cummings of Port Deposit, Md.; one brother, Philip (Delsie) Hartnett of Clear Spring, Md.; nine brothers-in-law and 12 sisters-in-law, Peter Miley, Christopher (Barbara) Miley, Steven (Jane) Miley, James (Elizabeth) Miley, Andrew (Sandra) Miley and Thomas (Jennifer) Miley, all of the Denver area, Francis (Joannah) Miley of Bellingham, Wash., Mary (Barbara) Miley of Milton, Pa., Bridget Hettgar of Laramie, Wyo., Clare (Jim) Donnelly, Marta Wozny, and “Betsy” (Eric) Oppelt of the Denver area; 19 nieces; and 14 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Miley, in July 2000; and her nephew, Daniel J. Hartnett, in 1995.

A rosary will be recited Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver.

A Mass will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at 7 p.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 1060 St. Frances Way, Denver.

The family will have a private committal service at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Denver.
