Peter V. Hayn
SAN FRANCISCO – The Rev. Peter Van Allen Hayn completed his journey on Sunday, May 12, 1996, at his home in San Francisco, which he shared with his friend, Vince Jang.
He started his journey on Jan. 21, 1945, in Wayne, Pa. His educational journey began after graduation from Olivet High School in Michigan, continued at Olivet College and concluded with graduation from Keene State College in Keene, N.H., in 1967.
Under the auspices of the United Council of Churches, he served as a missionary in Iannina, Greece. Later, he spent a year with the Roman Catholic Passionist Congregation in Detroit, Mich. He then attended Harvard Divinity School and received his Masters of Divinity degree from Andover-Newton Seminary. His ministries included churches in Gilsum and Sullivan, N.H., Needham and Ashfield, Mass., and the Montana towns of Sidney and Missoula.
His journey continued at the Episcopal Church when Peter was ordained as Deacon in 1990 and Priest in 1991. When Peter took medical retirement, he was serving as administrator for the Episcopal School for Deacons and as the Vicar of St. Barnabas Mission, both in San Francisco.
Survivors include his father, Lloyd, and his aunt, Virginia, both of Gonzales, Calif.; his brothers, Robert of San Francisco and Lawrence of Overland Park, Kan.; his former wife, Ruth Hayn, West Swanzey, N.H.; a son, Jeremy Hayn, Jacksonville, N.C.; a daughter, Sara Roosa and her husband, Eric, West Swanzey, N.H.; his grandson, E.J. Roose, West Swanzey, N.H.; and countless fiends he made during his lifetime of selfless service.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at St. Aidan’s Church, 101 Gold Mine Dr., San Francisco. The interment will take place at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco at a later date. Call (415) 749-6300 for further information.

Peter was ordained as Deacon in 1990 and Priest in 1991 in the Episcopal Church. Peter retired as Administrator for the Episcopal School for Deacons and the Vicar of St. Barnabas Mission, both in San Francisco. His ministries include those of Grace Cathedral and General Hospital and the Parsonage in San Francisco. He was also an active member of the Constantines of the Bay Area.
He is survived by his father, Lloyd; aunt, Virginia; brothers, Robert and Lawrence; his current partner, Vince Jang; former wife, Ruth Hayn; son, Jeremy Hayn; daughter, Sara Roosa, and her husband, Eric; grandson Ej Roosa; and countless friends he made during his lifetime of selfless service.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Aidan's Church, 101 Gold Mine Drive, San Francisco on May 25 at 5 p.m. His ashes will be interred at Grace Cathedral at a date to be announced.
