Obituary

William H. Liddicoat, Jr.
Aug. 26, 1946 – Dec. 21, 1996

Deeply loved partner, father, friend, son, and co-worker, Bill died among family and friends on December 21, 1996. Preceded in death by his father, William Sr., in December 1986, and by his beloved partner of eleven years, David G. Miller, in December 1994. Survived by his mother, Catherine, of Mesa, AZ; children, Michael and Tracy, of Seattle; former spouse, Barbara Willis, Gresham, OR; cousin Edmondine Benski of Great Falls, MT; and scores of friends as well as pets, Kemet, Alex, and Polly.

Born in Butte, MT on August 26, 1946, Bill was raised and educated in Columbia Falls, MT. While at the University of Montana, where he graduated in 1969, he was active in many student activities including president of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity and co-chair of the annual UM Blood Drive in his senior year. He returned to Columbia Falls after graduation where he was employed at a local bank, married, and started a family. In 1977, Bill moved his family to Oregon where he worked in banks in Corvallis, Tualatin, and Portland. He became a Seattle resident in 1985.

Music and social justice were central to Bill’s life. He was a chosen member of Sing Out, America’s Up With People vocal troupe. He was an avid member and supporter of Portland Gay Men’s Chorus and Seattle Men’s Chorus. Bill’s dedication to these groups was inspired by his belief that music was a great ambassador for fostering equal opportunity and treatment for all people.

Bill’s interests ranged from viewing Abbott & Costello movies to whale and dolphin watching. Wanderlust was in his bones. Albums abound with photos of every corner of America and world travels spanning the globe from England to Australia. Bill loved live theater, movies, dining out, parties, and sharing jokes with friends. He also treasured quiet times for reading, playing with his model trains, motorcycle rides and people watching.

Life will continue with Bill’s passing. His position at Seattle Telco Federal Credit Union, where he worked since 1985, will be filled by another. Properties owned by him will be dispersed. Bodily remains will be scattered. For those whose lives he touched, nothing will replace the memories of love, laughter, smiles and song. People are blessed to have known Bill Liddicoat.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 18, 1997, at Butterworth Manning Ashmore Funeral Home, 300 E. Pine St., 622-0949. Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Seattle Men’s Chorus, NW AIDS Foundation, or the American Cancer Society. [1]
