Obituary
Robert Rosenthal, 81, a life-long resident of New York City, passed away after a short illness at NYU Langone Hospital on March 16, 2023.
Robert, also known as “Bob” to many relatives and friends, lived an active Manhattan life during his 20 years of retirement. Bob enthusiastically supported the arts. He frequently attended performances at the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall and New York City Ballet, often with friends. Bob’s special places were Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Metropolitan Museum where he could share favorite sections and art. He enjoyed dining out and was the perfect guest at dinner parties. Bob also enjoyed traveling, sometimes to visit relatives and friends around the country, and often to explore Europe.
Bob was born on February 15, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, to Jack and Dorothy (Pressman) Rosenthal. His early Brooklyn life was filled with family gatherings and trips to nearby parks. He was a proud alumnus of Erasmus Hall High School and Brooklyn College. Bob started his work life as a New York City high school Mathematics teacher. After a few years, he made the shift to banking, where he started a long career with Manufacturers Hanover Trust in the Tax Department. While there, he moved into the Estate and Trust Department. As banks merged, Bob stayed in that field with Chemical Bank and Chase Manhattan Bank. He retired from JPMorgan Chase as a Vice President/Trust Officer in 2003.
During his career, Bob’s spare time activities included hiking and square dancing, along with his enduring interests. On retirement, he was one of the lead organizers of the MHT Co. alumni luncheons held at a variety of New York restaurants. Bob also enjoyed organizing reunions for his boyhood camp and Erasmus Hall.
Bob is survived by many first cousins and their spouses: Barbara Angel, Richard and Leslie Askin, Deena and Chris Heg, Alan Pressman and Melissa Palmer, Steven Pressman and Jane Agar, Robin Rosenthal, and Howard and Sharon Spector, along with many following generations. He is also survived by many close friends and past colleagues including James Magenheimer and Terrence Pranses, Uwe Lindner, and Frank Montaturo and Sarath Sochannan.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, his step-mother Pearl Rosenthal, his sister Nancy Rosenthal and her husband Paul Rosendahl, and his step-sister Denise Inkeles Glick.
Bob’s intelligence, keen observations and enthusiasm are already greatly missed by many. Bob’s close friends and relatives are planning several private gatherings for remembering and celebrating his life.

I'm so sorry to hear that Bob passed. He was truly a wonderful person. I knew him for over 40 years...aside from knowing him from the Times Squares, I knew him from "Sundance" the hiking group from which the Times Squares emerged.
