Obituary

Ron Gilmartin

Ronald Robert Gilmartin, 53, an accounting manager for a defense contracting firm in Rosslyn, Virginia, died on Monday, November 12, at his home in Arlington, Va., of complications associated with AIDS.

A native of New York City, he served as a photographer in the U.S. Navy for four years and in 1962 went to work as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service, where he worked for 17 years. In the late 1970s he worked on the formulation of U.S. tax laws and upon leaving the IRS in 1979, Gilmartin worked as a coordinator between the IRS and the U.S. Congress. Most recently Gilmartin worked as an accounting manager for SYNATECH, a defense contracting firm in Rosslyn.

He was an enthusiastic country western dancer and belonged to D.C.s Gay Square dancing group, Lambda Squares. He spent his spare time landscape gardening, a favorite hobby.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Michael McCroby of Arlington, Va.; four daughters, Therese Peters of Fla.; Janine Reeves of Laurel, Md.; Laura Gaston of Front Royal, Va.; Patricia Aldrick of Fla.; one son, Gil of Arlington; 14 grandchildren; and many loving friends.

Memorial services were held yesterday in Arlington at Cherrydale Baptist Church. Contributions in his name may be made to Hospice of Northern Virginia. 4715 N. 15th St. Arlington, VA 22205.[1]
